What are Millipedes?
A millipede is a little worm-like organism that belongs to the arthropod family. These slow-moving animals may be found all over the world. Millipedes are commonly found on the forest floor or just beneath the surface of your lawns and landscaping. Millipedes have been known to enter houses and businesses during particular seasons of the year and mating, causing problems. Millipedes are divided into two groups: detritivores and omnivores.
Types of Millipedes
Millipedes have about 12,000 described species globally, making them the largest myriapod group.
Risks Associated with Millipedes
Millipede Allergic Skin Reactions
Millipedes can cause mild allergic reactions if they secrete defensive fluids and you get them on your person or in your eyes.
Millipede "Bites"
Rather than bite, centipedes can pinch,
and venom is injected through their front legs-potentially causing a reaction similar to a bee sting.
