What are Earwigs?
Earwigs are little insects that come into your home looking for a wet area to hide. These pests like to remain concealed and will not usually come out until their hiding location is disturbed. Earwigs in your house or company emerge at night looking for food, and they frequently feed on rotting foliage, fungi, and other insects. Earwigs have pincers projecting from their belly, giving them the appearance of deadly danger. These pests seldom use their pincers to harm humans, but their intimidating appearance might create concern if you see earwigs in your home or office.
Types of Earwigs
There are 2,000 species of earwigs worldwide, found on every continent except Antarctica.
Risks Associated with Earwigs
Being Pinched by Their Pinchers
Earwigs can use their forceps to grasp onto a finger if agitated and might cause some discomfort and or break the skin.
Fast Reproduction Rate
Many female earwigs lay two to six rounds of eggs, at about 20 to 60 at a time.
Inclement Weather = More Earwigs
When the weather gets nasty, earwigs will want to cozy up in the dry and warm comforts of your home.
